stroke around masked layer?
I had to mask a layer and then decided it needed a 1px stroke around it to be consistent with other elements.
I feel like I’m missing a simple tool though.
Here’s what I did…was there an easier way?:
make a few points with pen
AltClick on Shape for pen and drag to mask shape
Another expression connecting scale of layer
Another expression for connecting position of layerIs that the fastest way to do something so simple?
Bleh. I thought maybe I was just getting an end of day brain fart.Let me know if you think of a better way.

Maybe I don’t understand what you want but .. any reason not to use the Stroke Effect?

What version are you using?
Select the layer, then go under the LAYER menu to LAYER STYLES, and select STROKE

Oh my goodness, how long have Those been there without me knowing?
So glad I asked that question now. For the same thing, if I had to mask something and needed a shadow or something like that I was precomposing that layer first, then adding an effect.

I was hoping it was Slightly better than Photoshop, but it looks like it’s a straight tie over to Photoshop. You can’t reorder layers styles. Bummer. Too many times, in photoshop, I wanted to reorder, and even duplicate, a layer style. -
As I recall it was added in AE CS3.
Yes, it has more than a few “quirks” especially STROKE – if you want real control, then the traditional methods like solid/mask/precomp etc. may work better, but for the down and dirty stuff (and in particular temp work), it’s nice to have.
Inner/Outer glow I find most useful.
