  • Stretch SIDES only of 4:3 video into a 16:9 video

Posted by Connor Mcbrine-ellis on May 30, 2010 at 6:43 pm

I have this 4:3 video that I am working on, and on some TVs, like ours, I know that there is an option to keep the center of the video in the correct ratio but then just stretch the sides out to fill the screen only, not the whole thing.

Is there any way to do this in Vegas? Just wondering!

    Thanks,

    Connor

There is no way to stretch just the sides but you can probably get close. What I would do is duplicate the track. On the bottom copy, use Track Motion and disable the Lock Aspect Ratio button. Then stretch the 4:3 to fill 16:9. Finally, add a Gaussian Blur. It won’t look as nice as just stretching the edges but it will give you an edge that is composed of the same background at least.

I know this is an ancient thread, and I appreciated your original answer (I used it in fact, and it looked pretty good anyways) but I was wondering whether any software other than Vegas can do what I am describing here?

    Perhaps After Effects?

    Thx

Take a look at the “Progressive Stretch” effect that is part of Video Essentials V.
