Is there a way for me to take a bit of audio and stretching it without affecting the playback time. For example, I want to get a second or two of room noise and then stretch that out without altering the properties of the clip.

Are you talking about the “maintain audio pitch” option in Speed and duration?

The quality will degrade almost instantly, but you’ll just have to try it out…

What exactly do you mean by “stretch it out”?

By stretching it out I mean stretching it so that it will cover parts with silence. I’m looking for an alternative to putting a bunch of the same, small clips next to each other. Rather than dragging and places the small clips next to each other, I was wondering if I could just stretch out the one clip.

No way to directly stretch the clip itself.

Instead, right click on the clip and select speed and duration. Change the percentage down, and check maintain pitch. Again, it will quickly start to sound like a rain barrel.
