Strange interlace lines??

That is interlacing. You shot 50i…”i” means interlaced, and that is what you have. Your computer display doesn’t show interlacing well…and often the Canvas and Viewer don’t either. The only way to see this without the interlacing is to view it on a TV or broadcast monitor via a video IO device. That will display it properly.

If you intend this footage for display only on computers…then you need to de-interlace it. And avoid shooting interlaced in the future.

There is nothing wrong with or strange about seeing interlacing if you shot 1080i50. If you were watching your video on a broadcast monitor instead of on the computer display, you would not see the interlacing. Computer monitors cannot properly display interlaced material, which is why you see lines.

I’m not sure why FCP is using 1080p24 for the sequence setting, because your sequence settings need to match the format you shot, which is 1920x1080i50. Change your sequence settings to ProRes 422 1920×1080 50i.

What is your final delivery medium? Web? DVD? If you are exporting for web, don’t use FCP’s deinterlacing filter. Just edit your video, render, export a Quicktime movie (uncheck self-contained) and open the exported Quicktime in Compressor.

When you compress your video for the web, you can use Compressor to create a deinterlaced 25p video file. Turn frame controls on in the motion tab of the inspector window. Change Resize to Best, Output Fields to Progressive, and Deinterlace to Better or Best. Compressor’s deinterlacing is much better than FCP’s deinterlacing filter.

If you are making a DVD, there is no need to deinterlace your video. It will look fine when played back on a standalone DVD player connected to a TV set, and most decent DVD playback applications on computers have built-in realtime deinterlacing algorithms.

Hi Gian,
The Legria records both i50 and p24.
But the MXP mode that you say you are using, (up to the legria specs; https://www.canon-europe.com/For_Home/Product_Finder/Camcorders/High_Definition_HD/LEGRIA_HF_S11/index.aspx?specs=1)
is not i50, but “p24”.
This is why you are getting Prores 1080p24 when you log&Transfer.
Probably the files are “psf” (Progressive Segmented Frame), so Progressive but packed as Interlaced.
You need to check the footage in the Browser as Progressive (NONE).
Drag a clip to a new sequence, and click YES to match the sequence to the footage.
You shouldn’t have no interlacing nowhere.

That’s wrong.
The camera shoot “p25”. So what I said about “psf’ is correct.
Check the footage as “Field Order: NONE” and set the Frame rate; 25fps”.
No idea why the Prores stuff shows as “p24”.

Ok. I’m back again.
I checked my settings. And I saw, that I made a mistake. When I drag and drop the logged and transfered files into a new fcp-sequence and click yes to match the sequence to the footage, fcp chooses: 1920×1080, 25fps, apple pro res 422, field dominance: none.
So, I have 25 frames/sec. These isn’t an issue thus.

As I don’t have the camera with me at the moment, because I rented it, when I shoot, I cannot check what exact setting i choose for shooting. Might it be, that the european version of the camera has other formats then the american? When I check the Specs on the european site though it says, that the camera shoots only (?) progressive, if I understand it right… https://de.canon.ch/For%5FHome/Product%5FFinder/Camcorders/High%5FDefinition%5FHD/LEGRIA%5FHF%5FS11/index.aspx?specs=1

But then it would make even less sense, when I have these interlaced lines, right? Why do I have these lines and not only the lines, but also a duplication of the image within the image (see my still), if it seems to be that I have progressive footage, at least after the import?

f course. The american (Vixia) makes p25 and i60 (130).

The Specs says that records “p25”, but nowhere says that records ONLY p25.
Says that in “Cine mode” records p25.
Only progressive recording in that camera makes no sense.

Ovbiously there are two fields on your picture, so whatever the clips/FC say tray a de-interlacer.

Hi I have the same problem but I can’t find where to change the setting as described:
