I’ve exported many files from FCP in the ProRes422 codec, then converted to a QT .mov (PhotoJpeg codec) with MpegStreamclip. The files have ALWAYS been smaller UNTIL TODAY. I can’t figure why this is happening.
    Any clue? Thanks! Ken

PJEPG’s quality slider effects quality, color sampling, and therefore size.

Try keeping it around 75% for 422 video. 100% brings it up to 444 RGB and the files bloat.

    Why not use ProResLT?

Not sure how I settled on PhotoJpeg, maybe 25 years as a studio stills shooter…that said, I submit to multiple stock still/video agencies and ended up with that codec as a generally accepted one. I convert at 90% and always have. (I know it’s a bit overkill) That’s why I was surprised by the weird enlargement after many clips done the same way that have always been reduced in that codec.

Sidebar to this is a major headache I had using Compressor…it would not cooperate this past year and I resorted to MpegStreamclip. In short, as a result of the “enlargement” issue, I revisited the Compressor issue and may have found the answer THIS MORNING. Terminal to the resue…I needed to trash the Qmaster prefs and things are okay at the moment. We’ll see if it holds. I have not tested the exported the files in question to see if they bloat but will later today.

    Anyway, thanks.

You will notice a size difference when going from 90 to 75%.

PhtoJPEG is crazy like that. 🙂
