    Hello Forum,

I have a question in regard to importing video from a video camera.
    I am using a Canon HV20. FCP 6.0.
I use the log and capture method to bring video in.
I use the camera as my input device.

I have a clip that I would like to import, lets say it is around 60 seconds of video. I start the log/capture, and I pause the clip where I would like to have an in point, and add the in point.
I start the clip and let it run to the spot where I would like to place the out point, and add the out point. OK. I do it for a few more clips on the same tape.

Let’s say I have logged 4 clips, and will use the batch method to capture the clips. I am/was under the assumption that I will have 4 clips captured clips when I finish. Let’s say I named the first clip Clip1, and the second Clip2, etc.

I start the batch capture process, and the tape rewinds to the first clip I selected, and begins the import. But… it does a funny thing
It adds a clip Clip1-1, Clip1-2, and Clip1-3, etc to the bin. When the capture is all done, I might have a series of clips, like Clip2-1, etc.

What is going on here? Is FCP detecting where I might have pressed the record/stop button in the camera? It is puzzling to say the least. I have not paid that much attention to how many times I press the button in the field. I used to add black space, by covering the lens between what I thought were scenes. When I do that, it will capture the black as a separate clip, which seems to say, FCP detects when the record button is pressed.

    Any clarification on this one?

    Thanks for a great forum,
    eric

    I’m not sure…

But make sure that, in the log and capture window, you have correct settings for the “capture settings” tab, and the other tabs also.

Second, get a deck. Using the camera for capturing is just not efficient and maybe it’s causing your woes.

    Hope it works out…
