I’m having a strange problem with a problematic source tape.

The source tape I was given has a short section where there is some crazy blocky video artifacting….it’s on the master and can’t be fixed. It’s for a simple presentation and the clients aren’t bothered by the artifacting, so…..

But, when I cut this clip into my timeline and play back over firewire, when the video does its little stuttering thing the audio drops out as well.

However, when I export the sequence as a quicktime, the audio plays back fine. So the audio is OK in the media clip. But for some reason the dropout in the picture is causing the audio to stutter as well.

I tried doing a mixdown on audio, but that doesn’t fix it.

I also tried cutting out the offending section of audio (it’s just a piece of music) and replacing it with the original song imported as an aiff file….but the audio still drops out at the same point as the picture.

    Is there something I’m missing?

Most likely the bad video causes the DV stream to unlock, so the audio is affected too.

I would suggest exporting the offending section as a quicktime movie off the timeline, so it creates a new file with the bad picture data in effect ‘burnt in’. Then you can replace the bad section on the timeline with the new file, and voila.

At least, that’s the theory. No idea if it will actually work.
