I am working on a video shot in 16×9 and I’m working under the DV-NTSC-anamorphic easy set up.
I’m using a sony clamshell dvcam deck and passing through to see my video on my monitor (also using the s-video to go to my LCD which is normally used in cinema display mode for HD)

I need to confirm that I’m ok, cause here is my problem.
On the clamshell display everything looks great, it is properly showing the “4×3” letterboxing that I expected to see. In the timeline I’m seeing the true 16×9 with no letterbox bars, but on the tv (and lcd) it is squeezing to fit the screen. I expected to see letterboxing on the tv (the lcd is not a concern, cause its thru the s-video and is usually jacked anyway). The signal to the tv is coming FROM the properly displayed clamshell, but its squeezing.

My final delivery is dvd, so I’m pretty confident that I’m ok, but I’m nervous that its squeezing on a tv. I did a test QT export and got a slight amount of letterboxing, but not what I was expecting.

    Does this make sense?
as long as I’m seeing it properly on my timeline and clamshell, I should be good, right?

    yes your fine.

and actually you could edit it as is, without formatting then format it on output to tape or flag as 16:9 for dvd.
