Stored AVCHD files are MTS – Whats the Best Way to convert to bring into FCP/7
Usually iMove is used to import direct from the card.
Works very well using ZS7 Panasonic cameras.It’s then converted to MOV in output.
Some pre-editing is done before saving output to file – probably a good prestep before FCP7.Looking directly at MTS files – they can be played by default with VLC.
Obviously a test input to FCP does not recognize format.
Using converted AVCHD MOV file from iMovie Events – opened in FCP7 just fine.A Google search – MTS converter has many options.

ProRes for one. Not sure what comes with FCP7 that might be already on file.
The entire FCP7 software load gets scattered the same as other large App’s to not know who is related. I wish Apple used a better file system.I may have to move this process over to my MacPro –
The small 4GB ram on the MacBookPro is struggling on the edge before getting started.Definitely a class is needed on this – a bit much to assume one can operate this w/o knowing the moves to a logical flow.
The extra window now of MOV file in FCP7 – hard to tell what move is next.

ClipWrap works great. It rewraps the files to .mov, it doesn’t transcode them, which saves time. Definitely worth the 50.

I just did a search on my drive and HDV-Apple ProRes 422 is included.
There’s over 400 different configurations of it in the application of FCP7.
Here I thought I had to buy more stuff. -

Prores is not a converter, but the codec you should use when converting your AVCHD stuff.You can try ClipWrap, also 5DtoRGB, and even you can download the PANASONIC AVCCAM QT Component to transcode the MTS files to Prores with Final Cut.

There’s been so much chatter on ProRes in here – I thought it was a third party converter.
I guess it’s proof – I’m pre-Rookie. Huge stuff to absorb.

Nope, ProRes is a proprietary codec developed by Apple.
