I am trying to create a stone tablet with text engraved into the stone. I created a cube, made it editable, created a spline text object, put it in a extrudeNURB, placed both the cube and the ExtrudeNURB into a Boole, and applied A without B.
Cinema 4d keeps telling me Out of Memory! I have been using C4d for a while in much bigger projects and never got an out of memory. I have 3G Ram and Duo Processsor and it should be fine!
How can i simplify the project to take less memory. I tried making the Extrude Nurb into a polygon object but that didnt help.
    Thanks
    Dan

Memory gets sucked up pretty bad with large shadow maps, bitmap textures, displacement, SSS so with out seeing your scene its extremely hard to help.

The scene doesnt have any textures and no lights. I have uploaded a picture of the object manager…I would upload the project if i this forum allows it.

    Thanks again for your help

That text is like 8000 points…that is too much for a boole. It would be different if it was one hole with 8000 points but using this much text will overload most desktops.

You can get this effect with sub poly displacement in the texture.
Or a releif object with a texture of the text. Both of these methods will be easy to process and be just as convincing.

I have 6 Gigs and a Mac which can give more memory to a program (there is a memory thing you can do which does increase the per-program limit of XP (don’t know about Vista) which somebody can describe how to do) and I can get that text to cut out of a cube here. It takes a bit to do the cut but once it’s calculated everything moves smoothly. It is possible but like Randy says it’s a load.

    Thanks Brain and Randy.
How can i find out more how to get my comp to allot more Ram to a given program. I am using XP.

Here’s a better way to go about this: https://www.3danvil.com/tutorials/engraved%20stone.c4d

So, two extrude nurbs objects — one to extrude the cut out letters up, and another to extrude the stone down. The former spline is formed by connecting the text spline and a rectangle spline. Before you do that convert the rectangle spline to bezier type and set the points to hard interpolation.

Thats great. How do you convert rectangular spline to bezier spline?
