  • Still images randomly going dark.

Posted by Randy on April 18, 2005 at 3:58 am

I am a bit of a rookie – self taught. Some of the still images that I have dropped into my timeline are going dark. The space on the timeline does not change but the image is black. When I move the dark section, the image returns but then later turns dark again. Any ideas?

What are the dimensions of the pictures? DOes this happen to every picture or only to specific ones?

The images going dark range in size from 675×428 to 2104×1504.

I have fixed the problem 3 or 4 times by moving the images that have gone dark and then placing them back in their original place in the timeline. Once I render the timeline, the same images turn dark again. Once, I didn’t render the timeline after fixing (moving and replacing) the images and just went ahead and burned to DVD. However, the DVD came out with the same dark images. It’s always the same +/- 20 out of say 100 images.

    Thanks for your input.

Scale the pictures down in Photoshop to 720*480 and see if the problem still occurs.

Thanks. I tried your suggestion on 3 of the images that I have had that problem with. 2 worked and 1 did not. Of the 70-80% of the images that do work, the majority of their sizes is in the 1772×1140 range. Smaller sizes may be helping a bit but it doesn’t seem to be the entire answer.

Try importing the pictures into another project and see if you can recreate the problem there.

I imported several images into a new project and have the same problem. I guess that’s good news and bad news.
