And I haven’t a clue about what the positions are. But I’ve had coffee sit downs with him twice and have met his family. You bet the horse, not the odds.

I’m waiting.
I know there’s \m/etal and all that, but still, it just seems like something is weird. 4k files in Ae are glacial.
I wish Apple would have called \m/etal, Caesar. That way, when we need to render we could stand up and announce that we were “Rendering unto Caesar!” and actually mean something, even if we didn’t really mean anything.

June 12, 2015 at 2:47 amSince it’s now clear none of us is actually talking about the same thing, unless Jeremy gets Walter and I to submit by using an illegal choke hold, it looks like this match should be declared “no contest.”

Metal is currently caught up in the WWDC hype cycle. I think that when compared with its real competitors (Vulkan, OpenGL 4.3, OpenCL 2.1, Direct3D 12) instead of the previous state of the art on the Mac platform (which was literally years behind) or CPU-only rendering, it will be obvious that Metal is not magic.
Ae’s architecture is old. If you were designing Ae from scratch today in 2015, I think you’d build it very differently than it has been built; but of course, then you wouldn’t have the enormous ecosystem that Ae has developed over the last 20 years. That said, the Ae team is working on modernizing it all right underneath us, kind of like bridge repair, with as little impact on developers and artists as possible.

June 12, 2015 at 3:17 am[David Roth Weiss] “Watch it Walter, or I’ll sic Augie, my killer dog, on you. “
… just in time for Tim (who is clearly now the referee in our narrative) to turn around and disqualify you for cheating in response to my cheating?
(Augie looks awesome, by the way. My son wants a puppy. Maybe we should get a killer dog, too. Just to keep vaguely on-topic, we’ll name him RAIDer.)

“How could it be? I only brought it up because Adobe was featured. I really don’t expect it to be magic.
