I am having the Master template problem described by Apple below:
    —————————————-

    Issue
On computers running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, Master Templates (templates created in Motion) do not display in Final Cut Pro 6. If you open a Master Template in Final Cut Pro, it may appear in the Viewer and the Canvas as blank or black on a computer with Leopard.

    Products affected
    Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
    Final Cut Pro 6
    Solution
This issue is addressed by updating to Motion 3.0.2 and Final Cut Pro 6.0.2.

Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to get the latest updates for your Final Cut Studio software, or go to Apple Downloads.
    ————————–

But I have done all that and still having the same problem. In fact after much frustration I reinstalled FCP, and have now installed the latest FCP update so now I am running Motion 3.0.2 and Final Cut Pro 6.0.4 but still no joy. I am running a 2.4 GHz Mac Book Pro with Leopard 10.5.4.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Well, first of all FCP is now up to 6.0.4, so do all the updates.

    Fix permissions, trash preferences

I have 4 suites here that all use Motion templates in FCP on Leopard and they all work fine

    Thanks Peter.

I am running FCP 6.0.4. Everything is up to date as I stated.

I repaired permissions and trashed the preferences. Still the same problems.

But thanks for the advice. If you have any further thoughts please let me know.

    I got it fixed…
    This worked for me- below:

I trashed the Motion application (even though it was updated to 3.0.2).
I reinstalled just the Final Cut Studio files using the Final Cut Studio install disks (didn’t install any of the extra stuff)
went to Software update, which offered to update both the Pro Applications Update AND Motion 3.0.2. This time, I ONLY had it install the Pro Applications Update, NOT Motion.
After it installed, I opened FCP 6.0.3, still got the black screen with the Master Templates.
I went back to Software Update and THEN installed the Motion 3.0.2 update.
rebooted and opened FCP, and the Templates were finally working again.

I’m still have issues with this. I went through all the steps, reinstalled, installed updates. No luck. Just black when I load the master templates. Anyone have any additional ideas?

I am completely new to everything video & editing and I ran into the same issue as well. After trying everything that was suggested before, with all the updates, install/uninstall etc., I simply went to user preferences in FCP, under the “render control” tab, down below under the “master templates & motion projects” section, I simply changed the quality from “normal” to “best”. Seems simple, and I am the last person to make suggestions, but this is what worked for me when all the other attempts did not. I hope this helps someone.

MacosX 10.5.6 with final cut pro 6.05 and motion 3.02 Master Templates appears in black in Final Cut Pro.

To solve the problem that works for me:

1: I trashed motion.app from my hard disk.

2: I installed again Final Cut Studio, only with the “Final Cut Studio Install” disk, (deselecting the contents).

3: I updated to Final Cut Pro 6.05 with the package “Pro Applications Update 2008-05.dmg” downloaded from https://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/download/

4: I updated to Motion 3.02 with the package “Motion302Update.dmg” downloaded from the same page

It only takes 30 min. and works

    Thank you Todd!!!!
