Stereo vs. two mono tracks
I have a video file with stereo audio, both L & R channels. I put the clip on the sequence timeline. I double-click the audio portion to bring it up in the viewer so I can keyframe the levels.
But instead of both L & R channels coming up, only one does.
On other files, both appear in the Viewer. What gives? How does FCP determine what is an actual stereo track vs. a mono track?

Clips can be linked/unlinked individually or by hitting the Shift-L command you can toggle the global link/unlink command for your timeline. You must have turned it off.

In the timeline, is there triangles touching at bottom of track 1 and top of track 2, this shows that the audio is stereo (if there). When you capture or log and transfer footage into FCP you can set audio to be either stereo or mono.

This doesn’t seem to be the problem.
I’m importing a MOV exported from After Effects. The audio output is set to Stereo.
I import into FCP. Everything is linked. The video and the audio for both tracks 1 and 2. However, the arrows that Michael mentions aren’t there. Instead, it’s recognizing the audio as two linked mono tracks, not stereo.

FC doesn’t decides nothing.
is the file that has the audio Mono or Stereo.
Open the file in QT, and check in the Info Window the kind of audio you are dealing with.
