Can some one list for me in a step 1,2,3 fashion how to import and transcode RAW RED files for an off-line cut from the RED camera hard drive to another drive and into final cut for editing?
What is the difference between HQ, LT and Proxy? Would I use HQ?
    thanks.

Nancy, if you have read the workflow information available from the RED site and searched the forums here and at RED and still are confused about the workflow, then I highly recommend you seek a post production technical specialist to setup a fool proof workflow.

Having sorted a few RED jobs, I can assure you that it is not simple and there are so many specific aspects that need to be sorted, starting with what is to be delivered, the offline/ online work path and edit systems that will be used along the way, including, FCP/ AVID, AE etc. It is far from a simple 1,2,3 approach.

go on there and download the final cut pro installer but make sure you have the right one. If you have a newer camera build, you may need to purchase FCS 3. The file that comes with it has a lot of good info on basic transcoding. Also, download REDCINE-X and RED ALERT and use reduser.net for questions about RED workflows.

    >> and use reduser.net for questions about RED workflows. << The Red Forum here on the Cow has been offering a wider range of information since the cameras have been shipping. Really- Noah is one of the preeminent authors on Red cameras, Stuart, David and I have been here awhile, https://mobi.creativecow.net/forum/redcamera
