    Hi,

I need to create steam coming off a coffee cup. Can someone give me some help achieving this.

I tried animating with frames but I did not get the organic effect required and thing this is exactly the kind of thing AE is good at.

    Thanks,

    Ross

Have you tried CC Particle World?

Either a particle system or Fractal Noise might work well for this.

If you’re going to try Fractal Noise then I’d recommend using the ‘Strings’ noise type with a fairly low complexity (2 or 3), a reduced horizontal scale and an increased vertical scale.

Foam has a credible smoke preset.
Carefully examine some real steam on some real coffee. It’s easy to overdo these effects.
Better yet, shoot some real steam heavily backlit against black and lay it over the footage using Screen
