  • Startup hanging on “Initializing User Interface”

Posted by Greg Neumayer on April 10, 2006 at 6:41 pm

Suddenly, in the last couple days, AE7 (Mac dual 1ghz) is hanging on startup. The welcome screen says, “Initializing User Interface”. Force Quit says that “AE is not responding”.

I’ve tried re-installing AE, to no avail. (didn’t do any un-install)
Any other suggestions? What’s hanging me up? Do I need to do something to clear it’s mind first? Like an uninstall? What about my receipts?

    Thanks,
    Greg.

Try deleting the Adobe After Effects prefs file for AE under Library>Preferences.

There are a number of User Interface options defined in the prefs file.

    There we go.
I had deleted some AE prefs in: me/library/Preferences/
    which didn’t help,
but neglected to delete the pref at: me/library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/7.0/Adobe After Effects 7.0 Prefs
which seemed to do the trick.
    Now to re-create my dark dual-mon look….
    Thanks!

    Thanks, this worked for AFx CS3 ( v. 8.0 ) as well.

    Kind regards,

Thank you so much, worked perfectly. To me the file was in Documents and settings/me/application data(its hide for default)/adobe/after effects/8.0/after effects 8.0 prefs.
