  • Standard definition side of Adrenaline gives video hits

Posted by Jaime Quintana on November 3, 2008 at 5:12 pm

I have Media Composer running through and adrenaline working both HD and SD signals. When I have an HD video signal up, there is no problem. I can output fine. But when I want to output a Standard definition signal, it gives me a video hit every 30 secs or so. It even shows up on my scopes. If I even just have the video paused, it gives me the same thing. Any suggestions?

This may sound dumb, but have you already tried rebooting everything? Including the Adrenaline box and all? I was getting a similar problem but with audio and it disappeared after I shut everything down and restarted.

Also, does this only happen when outputting or also when you play in your timeline in SD? Are you using Digital Cut tool?

what kind of sync gen or black gen are you using on your system. If it’s the ESE ES219 throw it in the garbage, go to the Video output tool menu, and turn your reference to INTERNAL until you buy a new black gen.

Thanks for the info. I set the sync to internal. Only problem is I am outputting to a Sony BVW-75 and I am getting synch problems. Any thoughts on how to get around that?

you just answered the question. You have just proven that your old black generator is useless, and your “hits” go away when you put it on INTERNAL. But now you have your sync error. YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO – you must purchase a NEW PROFESSIONAL black generator like an AJA GEN10, Blackmagic Black Generator or Horita BSG-50. And don’t you dare tell me that you currently don’t have the money. Go to the blood bank, and sell your blood or plasma. Don’t eat for a week (you are an editor, and probably too fat anyway). BUY A WORKING PROFESSIONAL black generator. You can get a new one for under $400 and a used one on ebay for about $175 (a used Horita BSG-50).

Thanks Bob….So I promise to run around the block a few times this week and cut back on the meals. What’s strange is that I took the blackburst generator off the matrix and plugged it into a monitor with a videoscope. I only got black and no video hit. I’m guessing its still the blackburst. I guess I’ll have to look into a new one. AJA gen 10 is mustard you say? Thanks again. Jaime Quintana

yes – AJA GEN10 is the box you want. You never told me the brand of black generator that you currently have – but if it’s the ES219 from ESE, this is officially DISQUALIFIED by AVID (and everyone else).

If you do order the GEN10 (it’s $320 at B+H), don’t forget the DWP power supply, which they sell seperately for $37.
