  • STALLED EXPORT. FUNNY GLITCH. Do I have a bad file?

I was working on a couple of compositions last night, one involving Zaxwerks. I was pretty tired so I’m not sure if I hit an odd key combo or something but I suddenly got a pop up asking me to select an illustrator file. I was a little confused why this pop up would have popped up because I wasn’t in the Zax interface. I had two 3D object on screen and when I clicked cancel, one of my fully completed 3D models was suddenly replaced by the other. Totally gone. Hours of futzing and there was now no sign of the it. The layer was still there with the same name but the 3D object I had created was long gone.

I closed AE, rebooted and started working on another project. This one with no Zax. I tried to export and the render output stalled at exactly 5:29 into the export. I quit and went to bed. I tried again this morning but same deal. Stalled at pretty much the same time.

This composition has no Zax, just a few PSD files. I am running a Mac Quicksilver with 1.5 Ghz RAM, OS X.3.9 and AE 6.5. I’ve never had this happen before. I’ve had all sorts of crashes (with Zax being the biggest problem) but never this.

Any ideas? I’m kind of stumped. I’m going to try repairing permissions and will try again. Thanks in advance.

    I’ve had problems like that.

Try this – Create a new comp and then copy and paste evrything into the new comp. See if that works. Also, you could try importing the entire project into a new AE project, and then do the same thing. Sometimes the AE file just gets glitched – these methods have worked for me in desperate times.

If it doesn’t, Are there any keyframes right at that frame, or does a particular image have an in-point our out-point at that frame. If so try removing the image or keyframe, and see if it works.

Also, can you render that one frame alone? If so, and you are truly desperate – render an image sequence in 3 seperate parts – everything up until that frame, That bad frame, and everything afterwards. You can always import them into AE and render the image sequence out as a QT.

On the other hand, if you are rendering an image sequence already, maybe there is a junk file with the same name as that frame, and for some reason it can;t be overwritten – that may casue a problem. Try rendering the sequence with a different name.

I know that’s a lot of info, but It’s really hard to judge the right course of action without knowing more about your problem.

    Sorry.

Copying the sequence into a new comp did the trick. Cheers.

I probably would have tried that eventually but you definately save me from hours of frustration and a lot of broken furniture.
