I’m trying to solve a problem we’re seeing with stairstepping. We capture our footage shot with the xl2 in 24pn 16:9 to FCP4. Now, when we watch the footage that is brought down to the timeline, keeping it squeezed without letterbox seen on a ntsc monitor (13” tv), there is no problem with stairstepping in the output. But when we show the same timeline footage to show as letterboxed on the same monitor, there is stairstepping. Why would that be? the biggest thing we’re concerned about is outputting to make a DVD, so that it will be 16:9, showing it as letterboxed on a ntsc that is not a 16:9 tv.

Does one keep it squeezed on the export out of FC, and let a program like DVD Studio Pro perform the letterbox 16:9?

We’re in a time crunch and needing a miracle answer asap. Any hlp would be much appreciated.
