  • Staggered opacity build for several hundred shape layers

    Posted by Dan Losapio on January 9, 2020 at 9:05 pm

    I have a QR code-looking logo that is made up of about 950 square shape layers. I’m trying to add an expression (or any other means of doing this) where the image slowly builds over approximately 5 seconds, with each shape fading up to 100% opacity, but at random/staggered times. Any help would be most appreciated!

    Try applying this to the opacity property of each of your shape layers:

    totalFade = 5;
    minFade = .25;
    maxFade = 1;
    seedRandom(index,true);
    myFade = random(minFade,maxFade);
    myStart = random(0,totalFade-myFade);
    ease(time,myStart,myStart+myFade,0,100)

    Dan, I cannot thank you enough; I thought this was going to take hours and hours of manual keyframing, but this is exactly what I was looking for.

    Thank you so much! I’ll try to pay it forward in another category where I’m not a total newb. 🙂
