Does anyone know of any video stabilizing software that actually works? Don’t always have the steadiest hands, and would come in handy in situations where needed.

I downloaded the 1.76 version of Virtual Dub. Opened it up in it’s own folder, then downloaded Deshaker, unzipped it, and moved the one file into the plugin’s file of VD. I run VD and check the filters window, and it doesn’t show a Deshaker plugin, actually there is no files in the plugin folder other than Deshaker, but the rest of the fx show in the filters area of VD. Don’t know what could be wrong. There HAS to be a commercial version of a stabilizer program out there somewhere.

I downloaded the 1.76 version of Virtual Dub.

You didn’t need to do that as everything (Deshaker 2.0, scripts, VirtualDub) is included in the install package.
That’s why the page that I linked to has the link to the original forum thread.
It covers most, if not all, of the problems that you might run into.

I will delete, and try that way then.

I checked. The link that the forum page takes you to, has been expired since July. I didn’t neccessarily have to have it as a plug-in for my Vegas. Actually, I kind of dreaded tying it into Vegas, seeing all the stuff that is involved in the thread looks very complicated. I have a wedding Friday and don’t want any issues to deal with in Vegas Pro 8, if this addition should cause any for me. The only other thing that I am not sure of, is that somewhere in the installation directions that I seen somewhere last night, it said something about if you cannot run it, it may be because you don’t have Microsoft Visual C++++ sp1, or something installed. Which I don’t seem to have on this computer. VD seems to work, it just does not have Deshaker plug-in working or even showing in the filters dropdown.

The link that the forum page takes you to, has been expired since July.

YouSendIt only keeps files for a week which is why it’s no longer there.
The original developer didn’t have web space to be able to host the script which is why it’s on the page that it is.
As far as using it, I can’t help you there as I’ve never used it.
If you read the thread on the Sony forum, you’ll see that a lot of folks have used it quite successfully.
Maybe someone else here has tried it and can offer suggestions.

I have used the Deshaker script from within Vegas with quite satisfactory results.
I am currently at work (nonvideo related) and this computer has Vegas 6 installed for me just to play with in my spare time. I did not have Deshaker on this computer. So I just went to the link that Mike provided in the second message of this thread. I then linked to the download site and downloaded a compacted file onto my desktop. I then unzipped the file into their HIGHLY recommended directory and followed the included instructions:

Installation: Double-click on the EXE file and let it install all files
in the c:\deshaker folder. You can move the Vegas script file (deshake.js)
to your script folder, but leave everything else in this folder, even
if you already have VirtualDub and Deshaker installed elsewhere.

To use, open a Vegas project. Select all video events that you wish to deshake.
They can be on any track, anywhere in the project. Then, run the script.
Everything happens automatically, and when the process is finished,
the deshaken video for each event will have been added as a take.

I copyed and pasted the script file into the Vegas script menu.
I then opened Vegas>Tools>Scripting and the Deshake script was there. Seems to work just fine.

Terry, thanks very much for doing that.
I had read that it was very easy but had no idea just how simple it was.
I’ve got to give it a shot tonight when I get home and can play 🙂

Thanks, I just finished doing all that you said. Deshaker shows up in my script file in Vegas, and it does its thing, but when it gets done, it says “Error: the system cannot find the file specified”. It says “rendering Deshaker.avi, while it is doing its thing. Also when it is done the “Actual file is no longer on the timeline, just the one that it tried rendering (with the whole track in gray, even where there is nothing, and you try to play it, and the preview window stays black, and all you hear is the audio.
