November 19, 2007 at 10:21 pmOK, I just opened Vegas again. PLaced a short avi file on my time line. Selected it. Went to Tools, Scripting, Deshake. Deshaker “did its thing”. At the end of “its thing” it replaced the event on the timeline with the new ‘deshook’ event as a take. It also added the take to the project media as 00001xxx.avi. I could then right click on the event in the time line and by choosing ‘take’ I got a menu that listed the original and the ‘deshook’ version and I could cycle through which one was on the time line. Worked perfectly. BTW this is not an editing machine. 2.2MHz P4 512mb XP running all the junk in the world.
That is to say, I don’t think the problem is with the script or Vegas. Unfortunately I can’t say what it is.

November 20, 2007 at 3:53 amThanks for returning my message. I seem to be having problems. I have downloaded the package that you are talking about. I can run Deshake from either VD, or from Vegas scripts. When I run it through Vegas, it does its thing, then says: Error: specified file cannot be found”. If I run through VD, it does both passes, and shows the one screen on the left, and 2 screens on the right with all the little pin like things doing their job. Then when it is done, I go to my document folder where it is sent, and play it back, but the video that I get is the 2 screens with all the pin like things. It is just like it recorded the two screens doing the last pass. I have tried 3 different files, each way, and does the same each time.
Thanks for the help, it’s evidentily not going to work for me. We tried -

November 20, 2007 at 9:32 amDeshaker works for me on V8 except
1 – It crashes if the project is set to 32 bit. I set it to 8 bit to deshake.
2- The script does not seem to find the panasonic coder. VD is fine with this.
So the script works fine in 8-bit mode with uncompressed codec. As far as using virutual Dub is concerned, when all else failed I read the very detailed explanation by John Mayer, A GUIDE TO USING DESHAKER. I think I downloaded the word doc together with the deshake zip file. I throughly recommend reading the guide before giving up.

November 20, 2007 at 3:23 pmI read everything that there is on this. I am discussing this right now with John Meyer, and he thinks he has found the error message that I am getting, just don’t know why. I did get it to work last night, only if I go through Virtual Dub. I did it on a shaky piece of footage and it really didn’t seem to do that much. Some jerkyness and distortion around the edges. Really want this to work. Still nothing thru Vegas though. The settings that I used in the 1rst and 2nd pass settings, was the ones that is shown in the manual.

November 21, 2007 at 3:54 pmWhy not do it right when you shoot?
Also ArcSoft has/had a stabilizing software that didn’t work too bad.

November 21, 2007 at 5:02 pmI edited the post above as a reminder that commercial messages, including for stuff for sale, aren’t allowed in the forums.
However, we have some great commercial forums that we’re building up.
Classifieds, for sale
https://forums.creativecow.net/viewforum/38Jobs Wanted
https://forums.creativecow.net/viewforum/237Jobs Offered – Higher Paying
https://forums.creativecow.net/viewforum/70Jobs Offered – Low/no Pay
https://forums.creativecow.net/viewforum/236We’re also building up a Services Offered directory. This one hasn’t been rolled out just yet, but you can get started by going to your Account & Settings (in the upper right of the Cow interface). Take a look around, there’s some truly great stuff there.
And at the very bottom, you’ll also see a link to advertise your business and services.
Okay, this is getting to be a commercial message itself. We now return you to your regularly scheduled Vegasosity.
My contact info is below if you have any questions or comments. Please get in touch there rather than taking the thread off topic.
Thanks,
Tim

November 22, 2007 at 2:00 amDistortion around edges makes me think that it was working. If the footage is shaking a lot you probably have to make several passes. You deshake the deshaked footage. I have done 2 passes to improve output. The script works perfect for me in Vegas Pro 8. Once you are done you typically apply zoom to the clip to get rid of the edges. I have also heard that some people apply a border to avoid zooms (quality loss).

November 22, 2007 at 2:05 amJust to add to my comments, some FX that are applied to the clip can cause problems. Selecting a clip that has velocity changes made to it will come back with the wrong starting point. There are some clips that I just don’t want to have to redo so I skip those. Big lesson, apply deshake prior to apply effects.

November 22, 2007 at 7:12 amI got it working on Vegas Pro 8, but still don’t work on my other computer with Vegas 6. I can use it though as a stand alone on that computer. I am just going to have to learn what settings to use to make it work the best. If anyone has some great settings that they would like to share, I would appreciate it.
Thanks, God Bless, and Happy Thanksgiving! -

December 6, 2007 at 7:07 pmAlthough not “integrated” nor free like the scripts and free software discussed above (which I’ve downloaded, thanks!) there’s a program called “Steadyhand” (can be google’d for) that works pretty well in stand-alone mode and is very simple to use (I’m not selling it nor am I connected with them in any way). Don’t know if it has HD support though.
