  • Stabilization Option Missing in ALL my Clips! Why!? Can Anyone Advise Please?

Posted by Adam Helwig on March 10, 2012 at 7:38 am

    Hey everyone,

I’m wondering if anyone else is having this problem. All of my events that have updated to 10.0.3 are now missing the stabilization option for every clip. Bear in mind that I have gone through a tagged and selectively favorited hundreds and probably close to a thousand or more clips. And now I find out I can’t use stabilization on anything (which I use quite frequently). Can anyone help?? Thank you so much to whoever can solve this!!

I’ve had the stabilisation option disappear – but that was back in 10.0.2.

All of these bugs are very idiosyncratic to the machine, operating system, etc etc

Presumably you have been through the trashing the preferences routine?

If not download this free software kindly provided by Digital Rebellion

    https://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/

If that doesn’t do the trick another, more severe, option is to trash the FCPX application ( from your applications folder only – NB – do not trash anything in your movie folder )

Then simply re-download it from the app store. One of the benefits of both the app store and FCPX is that this is a very simple and, depending on your internet connection, fast operation.

In my experience this tends to resolve lots of issues.

    Good luck

None of those things did the trick 🙁

Any other suggestions? Anyone? Thanks for any help!

Okay, for anyone else that runs into this, I seemed to have found a fix. I exported an XML for one of my events and then reimported the XML into FCPX. The new imported XML event had stabilization back for all my clips! After that, I deleted the old event, and all my other events seemed to have been fixed after doing this. Glad it worked out!!

    Digging out the old thread.
Have this happening to me now and it is not event related. I have 12 projects from one event and in one of those projects / timelines I am missing stabilization. Go figure.
It is not resolution dependent, I have 1080p, 720p25 and 720p50 mixed. Some clips are in other projects and work there.

I have not identified the culprit yet, but trashing prefs won´t help.

I know this is an old thread, but I didn’t quite find my answer here. What did work for me was right clicking the clip that didn’t have stabilization in the timeline and selecting reveal in event browser. This highlighted only the portion of the clip I was using in my edit. I dragged that (the yellow highlighted part) to that clip in my timeline. Options pop up and I selected replace from start. This replaced the clip without changing the length of in and out points of the clip. I selected the clip and now it shows the stabilization option.

well this may be an old thread, but i’m on 10.2.3 and it’s just started happening for me.

    stabilisation has completely disappeared.

i’ve trashed prefs, re-installed, tried the XML trick, and tried the ‘replace from start’ trick, and still no joy. i no longer have video stabilisation in FCPX.

    go figure.

    anyone any ideas?

what kind of clips? are these clips imported directly from camera, synchronized clips, compound clips, multicam clips, clips created from third-party xml? stabilization is only available for original clips.

    i think i’ve sussed it!

it did seem to be on any and all types of clips, but it started in a project that had synchronised clips.

even breaking them apart and apparently dealing with the original clips, i couldn’t get the stabilisation option back until i found them in browser and dragged them into timeline again as replacements.

i’d already tried this replacement trick on the synchronised clips so thought it wasn’t a solution, which is why i went on to pref trash and application re-install, and then panicked and posted.

once broken apart though, this replacement solution worked.
