    Stabilising a moving mask path

    I would like to create a mask on a layer, move it’s path around to highlight an area of interest then fix it so the footage behind does the moving.

    Is the best/only way to do this to create an adjustment layer, apply the mask then move the position of the footage on the layer beneath ?

    Is there a way using expressions or am i over complicating things ?

    Yes in the extreme. But I’d keep the mask within the video boundary when animating the path in the first stage.
