stabilise footage
I am using after effects to stabilise some footage shot from a helicopter but cannot seem to get the footage just right
I am using 2 track points one on the X & one on the Y but it seems that it only uses one of the trackers. I have tried using 1 tracker on the y & X axsis and it still does not work!
Any suggestions would be great

if you want to just stabilize the position, then you would normally only need one track point. the data from that one track point can be applied to x & y, just x or just y. most of the time the x & y data from one point should be fine for position.
if you needed to stabilize rotation too, then you would need to use two points, and i would think for a chopper shot, you’d probably be stabilizing rotation along with position, and that may be why you are having some problem.
are you looking to stabilize rotation too?

keep the trackers on screen. they won’t work if they get close to edge.
virtualdub + deshaker 2.2 is free and as good as monet for stabilizing x,y, rotation, and zooms.

Try to place the first tracker near the center of the shot you are doing. Place the second one on (or near) a point in the same depth plane but as far axially from the first/center point as you can.
Are you getting good tracks? Look at the track data and see if it looks smooth and rounded (good) or has sharp spikes and jumps in it (bad!)
If it looks bad – you’ll never get a steady shot. Keep tracking until it’s smooth.
