I’m working on an offline in DV space – the footage is 1080iHD downconverted to DV letterboxed. The delivery format is DV downconverted squeezed (so it will display 16:9). The show needs ot be captioned. Currently I am using the boris 3d text plugin to make the captions – but I realize that I will need to remake them in a way so that when they are unsqueezed they are proper. It would be great if I only had to make them once. What is the best workflow to achive this?

    Thanks
    Jason

Why do people do stuff like this?

[jasonlel] “the footage is 1080iHD downconverted to DV letterboxed. The delivery format is DV downconverted squeezed (so it will display 16:9).”

If you knew that you were delivering to 16X9 anamorphic, why did you downconvert as letterbox? You could simply have made the 1st d/c anamorphic and have been done with it. That would have been the best way to have done this. (Why you shot 1080 to deliver as DV is another question, but I’m not really going to ask)

I’m not sure, but I think that Traffic from xmedit.com may be able to fix this for you. Check it out & see.

    Thanks Arnie,

We actually finished the first show 1080i – and DV letterbox was our offline format. This new project was an after thought / add on – piggybacking on the footage we shot for the other project, and since the offline material is still on the raid that’s why we are proceeding this way.

Even if we had started with anamorphic material, would the Boris Plug in Scale appropriately / automatically ? Or would there be some figuring to do?

    Best,
    Jason

If you work in an anamorphic timeline, there’s no scaling needed for the titles. And if you then make an online from that timeline, the titles should scale properly on their own. I’d still make a quick pass to double check, of course!
