Square Pixel
Hello all – I’ve recently shot some footage on the Sony HDR FX-1. Looks fine, loaded it into a FCP timeline with the HDV easy setup no problem. When I import this same clip into After Effects 7 I need to have the Square Pixel box checked to get
the proper aspect ratio on the footage – why?Cheers!

Dave – thanks for the quick reply. Actually, I knew the camera was 1440×1080, I just found it odd that when I dragged the clip into my AE timeline to make the composition I had to check that box to get it to look right.

Your footage looks skinny, right?
It’s Cmd+F should tell you that it’s interpreted as HDV pixasp, right?
If you enable the pixel aspect correction button* it looks normal (with some preview scaling artifacts), right?
*comp window, lower right, rectangle with horizontal arrows.

Ian – Yes, exactly! There are some scaling artifacts, even at full resolution. Thanks for your help.

High five!
The scaling artifacts are just from the preview. I’m sure in this day and age of imaging they’re less a side effect and more a reminder that you’re working in pixasp corrected mode.
