    Hi there

So with Covid changing things alot – i have clients who want to create multiple cell phone videos displayed all together on the screen.

    For example : https://youtu.be/D3UW218_zPo

Most likely this is created using effect Templates from fxFactory like SplitScreen Pro. (https://youtu.be/FJlCwTyE1Ts)

Or a video wall like this: https://youtu.be/TObzITfUIq4

These are amazing, very simple, animated, premade and cheap….but im disappointed there are NO templates for Avid MC. Its all Final Cut or Premier. Unfortunately, im set in my ways on Avid, and would love to use Avid to create these types effects.

Does anyone know of plugin i can use for Avid that is like this.

Thank you for your time… be well
    Jim

Sorry, there is none. Of the plugin packages available to Avid, none do this. And to try to build this in Avid would take…a long time, and would really slow down the system. This task is best handled on another NLE…one better designed for it, or one where that plugin is available for it.

    Hi Shane,

Thanks for the response. I was afraid that was the answer. i can only hope that Avid recognizes the real need for these new type of work flows. When there are so many amazing templates out there – how can one of the top NLE’s not provide something of quality for their users…… ugh…but thats a age old issue with Avid. Its just that now, its beginning (or im beginning) to feel like a dinosaur.

Avid DOES provide something of quality to it’s users. It’s main focus is on other things…still has roots in features and TV, and needs to meet the needs of the core users. It can’t chase everything. That is why there are choices. You can buy FCX for $300 and never spend another penny on it again, and have access to those plugins, and make this video wall easily. And, if you want to stick with Avid… export that video wall from FCX as a ProRes file, and bring that over to Avid.

There is not one NLE that is everything to everyone.

And lets not forget, most of those plugins you mention are not created by the company that they work on, they are developed by third parties…so dont blame Avid for not having a plugin developed for it. (other than it’s use of resources makes it tougher to do)

But, its not like you can’t do it in Avid. We used to do these in the early days of Avid, at AVR 3.

Takes me back to my tape online days. Plan it out, use some math and start building.
Real time playback…i would assume not, but render it out, and off you go.

You’ve inspired me…maybe i’ll make one to see how the box fares.

    Thanks Glenn
Yeah I’m not hating on Avid…. I love working on it. Its the only NLE i know – and i dont have the time and heart really to learn another. Iam not big time into effects either. Most of my stuff is editing multicam shows. So again – I love Avid – its layout, media management, and just the logically way it allows me to work fast. But the flip side – looking at all the effect templates out there – that are made for FinalCut X, or Premiere, etc….. and there is nothing even close for Avid. I find that hard to believe and its very disappointing. Us older editors who have seen the changes since the late 90’s know that to create these effects from scratch would take a very long time. NOW – just drop on your timeline. For example check this out – https://youtu.be/tYnZXkfjSfI. – I would have to send that out to Aftereffects person to create….time and money – verses just drop on timeline and edit within NLE. And its all done.

We are moving into the whole plug and play market. I need a cool effect – i will just buy it. The avid “purest” will complain “oh you don’t understanding editing” while a 16yr kid is dropping these templates and blowing away clients. no one (or very little) people are creating these for Avid. If that doesn’t change very soon – especially in our new Covid world…. the avid editor, like myself becomes the dinosaur. The glimmer of hope – who ever comes up with templates for avid..like those on fxfactory – they could make ALOT of money. I don’t know why they havent – maybe its a software block on avid half….
    Anyway – my 2 cents

The other end of it is that a lot of the multiscreen we are seeing are actually just screen captures from zoom or what ever service being used, with all participants on. (most of the ones i’ve been seeing are being created by the streaming service)

But if you need to get people to send you 20 different cell phone, and laptop captures, all recorded at different frame rates, you could do it old school, although sync would probably be an issue.

Im getting asked right and left to create video walls like this. https://youtu.be/C54ape_UfwY.
    Goto 8:13

I have to farm it out – because Avid cant do this. Im not going to be making 18 PIP effects.
