The manual recommends a project setting of 30 FPS drop-frame for NTSC assets, which is what I have. Yet the only export settings it lists are 23.976 [I’d be curius to know what standard that is!], 29.97 drop-frame and 29.97 non-drop-frame.

I’m crashing all the time in export using 30 drop for project and 29.97 non-drop for export. It also takes an eternity. I’m guessing that I’ll need to substitute 29.97 drop-frame instead of non-drop in the export.

Am I right? The inconsistency in designation is very confusing and certainly could stand to be clarified to the user.

NTSC video is 29.97, often refered to as 30fps. 23.976 is 24p, which is the way 24p cameras such as the Panasonic DVX-100 can record. 24p gets complicated because the camera is actually recording 29.97 to DV tape, in order to do this it uses method called “pulldown” to make up the extra frames. Premiere Pro is able to recognize this pulldown, discard the extra frames to get back to the original 24 frames, so that you can edit in 24fps.
