We recently moved to a new facility and are having some issues. When I play color bars out of Final Cut to our rack mounted Waveform monitor I see little spikes on the top left and right or each color bar – like devil horns. Does anyone know what these spikes indicate? They do not appear with color bars from a VTR, a tape, or an internal generator. We’ve plugged the Final Cut Mac directly into the waveform and the same thing happens. This did not happen in the old space. Any ideas?

Hmmm. Sounds like a good mystery.
    1. It could be a bad video card or bad connector on the card.
    2. Sounds like a mis-EQd video distribution amp, but you said you’ve hooked it directly to the waveform (changed cables no doubt).
    3. What happens when you come out Firewire from FCP and look at the output of a DV deck on your waveform? Spikeys still there? Luminance or chrominance Spikeys?
    4. Take the computer back to the old space and see if the problem is still there. If not, move back. 😉
