I’d like to create a very particular effect for a film. It’s not something commonly covered in tutorials, so I’m hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.

I want the effect of sunlight glinting off of floating spider silk, to create a magical forest feeling. The silk moves and floats more or less horizontally across the frame, periodically catching the sunlight. I’m somewhat proficient in AE but I have no idea where to start with this.

    Any ideas?

This looks like a possible job for FreeForm Pro. The 3d distortion can create the flowing animation, the reflection map can give you the highlight/sunlight glint combined maybe with a glow (especially if you work at 32 bit color depth).

I’d love to give it a try, if there was a Mac version.

If you have an Nvidia Card in your mac, shoot chris at mettle dot com an email- the mac beta should be up now.
