Speeding up footage in post, how to get it silky smooth? It’s a bit jerky : /
HD ProRes 422 29.97 in FCP7. Trying to speed it up 150%.
I tried it in Kronos in AE and it looks bad
Tried sending it to Motion and using optical flow and it looks bad
Tried changing clips speed in FCP to 150% and it looks bad.Is there a magic trick? On set shot at 30fps so the shutter was set to 1/60. Original footage with 100% speed looks great ( smooth ).
Going for the Charlie Chaplin speed effect. My footage doesn’t look horrible just wish it was a lot smoother. Currently at 150% it almost feels like animation, not live action. How do I get it smooth like butter?!

I’m not sure if there’s a difference, but maybe… do you get the same results in your FCPX timeline with optical flow as you did in Motion? I’ve had (mostly) great results with it, but haven’t tried retiming in Motion.
Barring that, you might have a look at RE:Vision’s Twixtor.
A sample of the footage you’re trying to retime would help, if you can post it somewhere.

Turn on optical flow.
If that isn’t smooth enough, consider adding motion blur with a plugin like Revision FX’s ReelSmart Motion Blur.

It’s almost certainly a lack of motion blur in the final image.
If you don’t what to purchase a plugin, you can make your own motion blur effect in Motion and publish it back to FCPX.

Guys Kronos is the same thing as Twixter just arguably higher quality. I tried that already.
Like I said, I tried optical already as well. I feel like both are great at slowmo but not 1.5 or x2 speed. -
I would suggest, again, ReelSmart Motion Blur.

Reelsmart is definitely my favourite motion blur plugin so I’d second that.
