Speed up Final Cut Express 2.0.3
Hi all,
I have to do some minor editing work on a video project for about 1 hour.
But everything is really relly slow! The View window and the Canvas is not corresponding well and I have to render every file on the Timeline, even though I am at the moment only working with 3-minute video to test the program.
How can I speed up both my machine and the application FCE? What might be wrong with my settings or set-ups?
I have an iMac G5, OSX Tiger and 1,5 GB de memoria.
I have re-installed the operative system and made partitions of the internal harddisc where about 90 GB is devoted to the videofiles. The FCE is installed on my start-up disc. I have no other applications installed apart form the operative system and FCE. It should be running quite fast, do you not think?
Please help me anyone, because I am slowly getting panic…

If you’re having to render material in the timeline the settings are incorrect. If you used the default settings they’re NTSC. You’re perhaps working PAL. Is this DV material you’re working with that you captured in FCE?
There is no real advantage and some disadvantages to partitioning the internal drive, but they shouldn’t produce the results you’re describing.

YES, I have DV material and YES I had set the correct settings to PAL.
Now I am only working with one video file for about 30 sec!
It stills shows me the red rendering warning on the Time line and I am unable to see anything in the canvas.
The next step to take???

The material in the Timeline does not match the sequence settings. Select one of the clips in the Timeline and use Cmd-9 to see its item properties.
Select the sequence in the Browser and use Cmd-9 to see its item properties. If they do not match in every respect the material will need to be rendered.
If they do match exactly and it’s still not working there is a problem with the installation. You’ll need to fully uninstall and reinstall the application from the discs.
