Speed up 50fps footage that has been conformed to 25fps
I’m working in Premiere CS6 on a project that has been shot on a Canon 5D at 720p50.
For workflow reasons in-house the footage has then been conformed to 25fps using Cinema Tools, which works great for having it all in slow motion but when I now change the speed of a clip in the timeline to 200% the results don’t look natural.
For the future: From what I understand in CS6 it’s not necessary anymore to conform the 50fps footage to 25fps as simply slowing it down by half has the same effect now without loosing any frames? Is that correct?

Simply import the footage at its native 50fps frame rate. When it is inserted into a 25fps sequence Premiere Pro will automatically skip every second frame when playing the clip at 25fps. If you want to slow the clip down to half speed, do any of the following:
– Right-click the file in the Project Panel, select Modify > Interpret Footage, and set frame rate to 25fps; all clips from this file will now default to 25fps at half speed
– Right-click a clip in the timeline, select Speed/Duration…, and set Speed to 50%; this will only change the speed of the selected clip; all other clips from the file will play at the default speed
– In the Motion Effects for a clip, set Speed to 50%; if desired, speed can be ramped up or down using keyframes or the rubber band tool; this will only change the speed of the selected clip; all other clips from the file will play at the default speed
