I wish to make an audio CD in sony architect 5.2 When I come to burn it the minimum speed is 16x although sony architect initiallys says 1x it changes it when I put the CD into the DVD/CD recorder/player. I have tried two different recorders. I want to burn at 1x
    Thank you

“I want to burn at 1x”

You may not be able to. The disc has a permanently embedded code (Media Code Block) in the hub that all burners and drives use to determine who made the media (there’s only a few disc manufacturers in the world so just because the box says Sony, it’s a commodity item that may have been manufactured by Fujitsu chemical), and the manufacturer’s preferred burn characteristics, such as how fast, speed change tracks, etc).

I am not aware of any utilities that tell you what the MCB on CD’s contains.

But, you probably can’t record at 1X (why would you want to?) because the media manufacturer doesn’t want you to.

Hi Steve Thank you for your reply. Does anyone know of any cd’s which will burn at a low speed. The one I’ve got is a Maxwell which burns at 16X. I want to use it as my master and therefore to be the very best quality.

If you want the best quality, start with a high quality disc like Taiyo Yuden and don’t buy the Value Line, get the good ones. There is no need to burn at 1x. Just burn at the slowest speed the drive allows (usually 4x or 8x).

John Thank you very much. CD-R Gold looks the best. Initially I only need a couple! They are to send to the duplicators. But obviously would buy a small pack. I’ve searched the web and have difficulty in finding a small pack. Any suggestions where it is good to buy them?
    Thank you

I buy all of my media from meritline.com. They usually have good prices but I buy in bulk of 100 or more. I believe they do have some 25 packs.

Amazon UK carries Taiyo Yuden CD-R’s. Verbatim are also very good.

    Dear John
I now have taiyo yuden studio gold mastering
However they still won’t go below 16x!

I have tried them in two different DVD/CD rewriters.

I have tried them two different ways in CD Architect 5.2.(version 5.2b)

1 I just pop the disk in and select burn and choose rewriter and speed is 16x onwards

    2. I don’t put a disk in and select burn then speed and click on 1x but as soon as I put the disk in it goes back to 16x onwards.

(inicidentally I have had no trouble burning DVD’s at 1x using DVD Architect Pro 5)

    Thank you

I guess you’ll just have to burn at 16x. I don’t see any reason why not to if that’s the slowest speed that the disc is rated for.
