speed changes
Hi. Does anyone know why I cannot change the speed of a file? I have tried it with video and audio files as well and it worked before, but now I am having a problem. I have made these kind of changes to some of the files myself and now I cannot change them back. What’s going on?

I think I’ve had that problem before too.
When you speed up or slow down a clip, the clip becomes longer or shorter (obviously). Consequently it causes other clips afterward on the timeline to move too, which is actually annoying I think. If for some reason FCP doesn’t want to move the other clips, try moving the clip you want to change the speed of to the end of the timeline and make the speed change there. Then move it back to it’s original location on the timeline. It’s annoying, but it’s worked for me and maybe it will for you too.

Thank you for responding so soon. Actually, I have been very careful about this and I have always tried it on files on the timeline that were totally separated from others. Like I said, I could do it before. I could still do it on certain files, but not all. The error message I get is: Unable to complete command. A conflict occurred during trim operation.

do you have any audio in the timeline underneath the file you are trying to speed-change? If so, either lock the audio tracks, or move the video you are trying to speed-change to an area of the timeline that has no audio underneath.
If you lock the audio tracks, down-stream clips in the timeline will shift out of sync with their respective audio clips.
