Bumping an old thread – this has been incredibly helpful. Is there a way to modify this expression to work on a sentence instead of just single words?

I would think that replacing the split-at character with period instead of space and using your sentence as the search string would do it. Not that I looked very deep.

I don’t think so, using this technique, because there’s no gradient animator for text.

    Thanks for your response Dan..

Do you have any other idea?

I don’t know if it’s practical, but I guess you could have a duplicate text layer, behind the original, that you have converted to shapes and applied a gradient fill to. Then you could add an opacity animator to the text layer in front and make invisible the words that you want to have the gradient. Not sure if that meets your needs though…
