  • Spatial Conform and Compound Clips?

Posted by James Culbertson on June 26, 2012 at 7:36 pm

First issue: it appears that spatial conform for compound clips can only mirror how the nested clip is set. So, I have a compound clip (synced audio and video – source is 1920×1080), nested video is set to a spatial conform of none, so when I bring the compound clip into the 1280×720 timeline the compound clip’s scale is with reference to the source rather than the timeline. When I apply the transform effect to the timeline clip, I see a transform box that is set at 100% of the timeline size rather than 100% of the source clip. A bit odd but not really a problem for scaling. However, when I apply an effect to the same clip, the effect crops the clip to this 100% of timeline size box. Is this just the way things are working currently, or am I missing something?

Are there any workaround for this that someone can recommend?

    Thanks.

James – I’m trying to follow you and attempted some tests but I’m not understanding completely what you are trying to do. Can you post a few screen shots showing what is happening?

Select a clip in the timeline, change spatial conform to none, make it a compound clip, then change transform to something less than 100% (also notice where the transform box outline is when you enable the transform effect in the viewer), apply any effect (as far as I can tell; but I used Gaussian Blur as one example). Notice how applying an effect crops the clip to the transform box outline in the viewer which is not 100% of the clip size when none is applied to the nested clip (inside the compound clip).

    Effect disabled:

    Effect enabled:

I can stick with fit rather than none for compound clips, but it would be nice to be able to reference image size relative to the source rather than the timeline in certain circumstances.

That has bug written all over it.

    Did you report it?

I did. But also wondered if I was missing something. Thanks for confirming this.
