hi guys, wonder if you could help?

I’m trying to create a moderately realistic strand of spaghetti in illustrator. I need it to follow a path, but I can’t get the shading right to make it look a little 3D.

The nearest I got was putting a load of I’s on a path, reducing the tracking then applying a gradient. This kind of looks ok, but it’s a little ragged – and once I get that into After effects it looks even worse.

Any idea how to draw this better in illustrator? I also have photoshop…

I’ve used PS to draw a rectangle and then add a style to create the 3D effect. The gel look style is a good start. Then change colors and parameters in effects to dial it in. If you want it wavy create an underline in text and then warp the text and add the style. HTH
