space bar won’t propagate in After Effects
Posted by Jon Brown on April 25, 2023 at 11:11 pmI’m new to After Effects and I’m trying to isolate the primary figure in a video so I can change the background. After using Rotobrush 2 and outlining the figure I want to propagate, but the spacebar is not starting the action. Any suggestions? Thanks

One common issue is that your computer might not have enough processing power to handle the complex calculations required for Rotobrush. This can cause the program to lag and prevent you from using the spacebar to propagate.
Another possibility is that there might be a conflict with your keyboard shortcuts. Make sure that the spacebar is assigned to the correct function in After Effects, and that there are no conflicting commands that could be overriding it.
Shahan.

May 5, 2023 at 2:36 amIf the spacebar is not working to start the Roto Brush 2 propagation, there are a few things you can try:
-
Check the keyboard shortcuts: Ensure that the spacebar is set as the keyboard shortcut to start the Roto Brush 2 propagation. You can do this by going to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts and searching for “Roto Brush 2 Propagate” in the search bar.
-
Restart After Effects: Sometimes, simply restarting After Effects can help fix issues like this.
-
Try a different keyboard shortcut: If the spacebar still isn’t working, try using a different keyboard shortcut to start the Roto Brush 2 propagation. You can set a custom keyboard shortcut by going to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts and searching for “Roto Brush 2 Propagate” in the search bar. Then, click on the shortcut column next to it and enter the new shortcut you want to use.
-
Check your hardware: Roto Brush 2 can be a processor-intensive task, so make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements to run After Effects smoothly. If your hardware is not powerful enough, it can cause issues with the performance of Roto Brush 2.
If none of these solutions work, you may want to reach out to Adobe support for further assistance
