Source point along a path

I am new to the cow, but I will do my best in repley, and I am sure others may have other ways to do this.

1)Copy the key frame or frames of your path (or mask) to an adjustment layer.
2)Then go to you layer that contains the shine effect and alt click on the Source point
to create an expression line.
3)Then attach your expression to the position of of the new adjustment layer that you created. (adjust keyframes if needed)

I just suggest you to use a “null object”, that’s made for this.

You can also just copy the path’s “mask shape” property and paste it to the Shine effect’s “source point” property in the timeline.

Steve, I have noticed that the path shape enlarges itself when copied as the source point property. Why is that?

Anyways, I have tried to fix it by scaling down the shine layer and also by moving the same in x and y coordinates to get the source point moving exactly at the correct position. Do you think this is the right way?

Are the masked layer and the shine layer the same size? If not, you’ll see a discrepancy.

Hi Steve
Yeh, all the layers are 640×480 including composition itself, but the path shape copied is bigger than the original path shape on a null layer.
