I’m getting the impression from all the posts today that 5.1.2 may be
more trouble than its worth for now.

Is this an amazing coincedence or does apple have further work to do?

How many of you updated to it and have no issues and are using the 24p or 24f presets.

Every FCP upgrade release has it’s glitches. Every one. And many of them might be due to pilot error. I cannot get the motion plugins to work, but that is only me. Others can. So it must be something on my end.

All the issues are minor…and typical of an update. Don’t let it freak you out.

What graphics card do you have, Shane?

That is a VERY good question. Radeon 9800 Pro.

And really interesting in the fact that I did a demo of a few new features of 5.1.2 at LAFCPUG (scopes, P2 import) and Michael Horton and I were warning people about the possbile issues with the program (Avid codecs et al) and I mentioned my crashing with the Motion FX Plugins…so I did a demo of that…and it didn’t crash. It held firm.

SO…issue only with my G5. I’ll have to look into that.

(I really like the LINE ART plugin in STYLIZE)

i’m working on 5.1.2 on two G5s using radeon 9800. No problem at all. Both of those macs even have Avid codecs installed and run fine!

But then, it’s only been two days since i’m working with 5.1.2. Maybe there’s more to come…

Not really. As Shane notes, there are always glitches and much of that has to do with your system setup. In my case, the G5 Quad updates with zero issues. My old G5 Dual 2.0 would not launch FCP until I dug out an old Zaxwerks trial plug-in that I totally forgot about in a folder I didn’t even know about.

FCP 5.1.2 adds more power and flexbility with Fx Plugins which work across multiple apps but are installed into one folder. This and Avid codecs seem to be a big hangup for most problems.

But both systems are completely stable and our Mac Pro will be up and running this morning, I expect with no issues as well.
