Sound trouble
Hi Guys,
We’ve hired in an EX3 for a shoot and are just getting to grips with the camera’s interface and have come up agains a serious problem. We’re finding that the audio levels in both channels and on internal and external mics are not registering anything. We’ve been through all of the settings and combinations and failed to get any sound at all. We were wondering if there was a mass mute or ‘off’ setting for the sound or if this is more likely to be faulty equipment?

Could be faulty kit but may be something simple like the mic settings at manual but the manual audio wheels set at near zero. Also look in the menu (Audio) and see if someone has been frigging around with the trim settings.

There are a couple of “gotchas” to look for.
If the mic needs phantom power make sure that’s turn on.
If you have it set in software menu to send one channel to both channels and you plug a mic into the “other” channel, you won’t get audio.Once you’ve got those covered, I’d set each wheel to 5 and start playing with the Trims in the menu.

Those were some of the very last things we tried. Pretty certain we have a faulty camera on our hands here now. Back to the hire company.
