Recently we were asked to re edit a program about a hospital that stayed up during Katrina. It consists of hundreds of interviews. I believe it was edited on FCP 4.5. We brought it back up in FC 6.01, and immediately had a problem with every sound clip that had been sent to Sound Track. During reopening of the projects, a dialog message came up for every Sound Track clip:

“The movie file “EffectB3FC0BB2-D4F2-4#A4FBB.aif cannot be found. Without this file the movie cannot play properly”.

Of course, each sound clip had a different “Effect” number. The .stap files are still in tact, but search as I will, I can’t find this “Effect….aif” file the dialog box wants, or any file similar on any drive, including the archives. There are hundreds of these cips to edit. If anyone has any clue, it will help us avoid an editing nightmare.

    Thanks,
    Dave

Sounds like it’s looking for audio render files that were not transferred to you. What happens if you open up the .stap files? Were these files flattened, or do they still have all the actions visible in them? Can you export them again?

Thanks for responding. The .stap files are in tact, all the actions are there and play fine. I can manually put them with the video and tediously “hand sync” them on the timeline to get them back. Not good for hundreds of clips.

What mystifies me is the “Effect…(number).aif file being requested in the dialog box when opening the project. A search for anything similar returns nothing anywhere anytime. Was this something germaine to the older versions? I did the original edit, and have ALL my files, so that is why it’s a mystery. Due to time constraints, I’m now pulling the original qt’s onto the timeline and re editing. All the .stap work will have to be redone if I can’t find a solution.
