    Hi

I have a curious issue (curious to me anyway).

I’m capturing from a Sony HVR HD1000E via FW to FCP. The recording format was HDV 1080i so I’ve set up FCP to capture accordingly.

The tape plays video + audio fine in the camera, and fine in FCP BUT when I capture and play back the captured clip the audio is totally distorted! I tried capturing the same clip via iMovie and that’s all fine.

Any hints as to why this is happening would be greatly appreciated.

Check your “master audio gain” setting in the clip settings tab in Log and Capture window. Try pulling it down and see what happens. The default looks to be set at 1 so try setting it to 0 and see if this helps.

    Hi Richard

Thanks for the reply, though I’m running FCP 7.0.3 and don’t see any options in my clip settings window to adjust the audio.

When you open the Log and Capture window there are three tabs in the upper right corner…. click on the “clip settings” tab and under the Audio settings there is a “master gain” slider. Adjust here.

    Hope this helps

    Hi again Richard

I’ve attached a link to a screen grab of what I see in my Log & Capture window. Am I looking in the right place?

    Thanks again,

Interesting, Yours is different… here is mine…

I must have these options because I am using a KONA card rather than capturing from Firewire… I am sorry, I guess I am stumped. Do you have another way to capture, like via HD/SDI?

    Hi Richard

Yes, that must be it! Thanks for taking the time to get back. I was able to use iMovie to bring the footage in anyway, so no major hassle. I guess IF the problem persists next time I capture I’ll be doing more ‘investigating’.

    Thanks again.
