Sorry guys, I’m just full of questions
Another project. I assembled and rendered as mpeg2 is 75 mov files totaling 5.6gb of space and 4:54 hrs of time. I tried the bitrate calculator and it seemed to say 1832 is the average bitrate to fit on disc, but go to DVDA and it won’t let you because the bitrate is too low. So since I already have made one big mpeg file, is there a way to cut it in half and make 2 DVD’s without going back and re-rendering in two pieces? And I still can’t figure out the bitrate calc thinkg. See if someone gets the same numbers that I do on the above size and time.

The quality of 5 hour project on SL DVD would suck!

I get a slightly lower bitrate but yes, it’s in that extremely low range.
A caution for you.
Unless you really know what you’re doing and heave the right tools for the job, don’t exceed a 2 hr. timeline for any of your projects as the quality will go downhill rapidly.To split up your almost 5 hr. file, see if the trial version of VideoReDo Plus (google it and it’ll come right up) will let you do it and save the results.

Vegas Pro 8.0+ will smart render MPEG2 files. If you use the exact same render template as the source, you can re-render in Vegas and it should say “No Recompression Required” in the preview window and just copy the source to target. You can split the file this way.
If that doesn’t work, Womble is an excellent MPEG2 utility for cutting without re-compressing. I’ve used it to attach new openings to existing MPEG2 files or to fix closing credits with typo’s and it just stitches them together like magic. It’s an extremely useful tool to have in your kit.
