Looking at the Sony Z1U I know very little of HDV. So my question for you kind folks will my FCP5 edit the formats ( SD HDV HD ) that this camera shoots. Will I need anything special to get he footage into FCP ?

    Thanks for all the help

    Tom

FCP edits from an HDV camera like the Sony Z1 either as an HDV native file or a downconverted DV file (offline/ online reconform)were the HDV is recaptured via HD SDI as uncompressed or DVCPro100HD. Camera and firewire cable into your FCP computer will get you started.

There must be hundreds if not thousands of archived posts on this subject both at this forum and the HDV forum. Please do a search as this very basic issue has been discussed a lot.

    Good advice, David…

Let me also add, Tom. The V1U is a better camera than the Z1U for about the same price depending on where you look. Something to consider… You might think, I don’t need any 24p or film looks, but you may have a client who wants it. And in today’s world of prooduction, the 24p film look is growing as a standard.
