SONY XDCAM Software & Final Cut 7
Hi Folks,
I’ve been using Final Cut 7 for editing for some time and I like it, I’m used to it. I’m running on a 2008 Mac Pro tower with OS 10.11.6. I recently purchased Sony XDCAM EX-1 cameras so I can shoot and edit in full HD. I loaded the free XDCAM software from the Sony site but I keep getting an error message that I’m missing “XDCAM drive file system driver”, which the message says can be downloaded in the XDCAM software. I’ve downloaded both the new and old versions of the software but it still doesn’t work. What am I missing??? I’m getting desperate. I have a shoot coming up but I don’t want to use these cameras if I can’t load the footage. HELP!

Unfortunately, your computer is very old and so is your OS. I also shoot with an EX1. I was on a mid 2010 Mac Pro Tower and Catalina. Like you, I rather keep what’s working. But eventually things stop working and are not supported.
So the time came to upgrade. I’m not on a 2020 iMac with 64GB of RAM. I changed to FCPX. FCPX was challenging to learn, because it’s NOTHING like FCP7 at all.
But the good news is there are hundreds of tutorial out there.
The other good news is you can import BPAV files directly into FCPX. No need to use XDCAM software. It’s time to make the move John.

Yes, the media loads like an SSD on your desktop.
Wow, I think we still have an XDCAM recorder.
I haven’t used it in 5 years.
