Sony XDCAM import crashes system
10.5.2 running FCP 6.0.3 on a new Mac Intel with 4GB of Ram.
We are having intermittent issues when capturing XDCAM footage (file import process). When importing one clip, the process is great. When you go after the second, it has an issue, and says the device is no longer avaialable, or it kernel panics. This happens on 2 macs of the same vintage.
This happens in Sony’s XDCAM transfer tool as well, you don’t have to be in FCP. At first we thought it was the XDCAM drive, but it happens even if I copy the files off of the drive to a local disk.
The solution ? I removed ram to make it 2GB of Ram, and everything is happy. But I like having lots of Ram, especially with HD.
I used to have this issue on previous platforms with various software. Just wanted to see if anyone has had similar issues. It sure as heck works reliably with less ram. I even replaced the ram I had with the ram I took out to see if it was a bad stick, and had the same results.
